On Saturday 19th of July, our esteemed MP Sir Geoffrey Cox KC, hosted a delightful garden party fundraiser near Tavistock, as we commemorated 25 years since he was chosen as candidate for our Association.

A scrumptious hog roast was provided, and happily the rain held off. Susan Collins put on her usual wonderful raffle, and we had a silent auction, again much of which was coordinated by Susan, and some from Debbie Flint. Lady Jeanie Cox was amazing as usual, organising everything, and our new Chair, Peter Crozier, MC’d. Massive thanks to everyone else not already mentioned, for helping to make this happen.

With contributions and anecdotes from many of the core Association and Executive group members (especially the ones with long memories!), former president James McInnis led the tribute. Jeff Wilton-Love, former councillor and watch-maker, presented a handmade pocket watch and a bottle of whiskey to mark the occasion. Sir Geoffrey also gave us his usual pertinent assessment of the current situation in politics, mentioning Margaret Thatcher whose 50th anniversary is this year since she became leader, followed by the customary Q&A.

We were delighted to welcome several new faces and of course, grateful to see so many familiar ones too.
Peter says, ‘As we build up our funds again, following the last two summer’s elections, ongoing support for our events is vital. We would love to invite several more of our members to start getting more involved and I’d love to ask anyone who is interested to just give me a ring for a chat. Email office@ or fundraising@torridgeandtavistockconservatives or just call on 07846 078847, to discover more, from standing as a councillor to helping deliver leaflets to attending the next event. It would be a pleasure to hear from you.”
