Evan Williams, your local candidate for Milton & Tamarside, shares his story and priorities ahead of the Milton & Tamarside by-election:

I have grown up here in Devon, having attended local state schools, and for the past 14 years I’ve called Holsworthy Rural home.

Over the years I’ve worked in estate agency, got hands-on in building, and more recently gained experience in hospitality — a mix that reflects the everyday life of people across the South West.

I’ve also served as a parish council vice-chairman and continue to serve as a parish councillor and have been involved in community projects, which have given me a good understanding of the priorities our villages face day to day — from planning and housing to transport and local services.

Putting Local Residents First – I have shown through my work as a Parish Councillor that I will always put our local community first. With my energy, focus and determination, no-one will champion our area more than me.

My priorities to you, if elected:

1. Protect our countryside and villages – Stand up for sensible planning, oppose inappropriate schemes like the Holsworthy Beacon Solar Farm, and fight for affordable homes that local families can actually live in.

2. Make every council tax pound count – Cut waste and demand real value, while pressing for road repairs and proper investment in the services rural residents rely on. As your councillor I will highlight every pound I see wasted.

3. Back farmers and boost local jobs – Champion farming, tourism, and small businesses to keep money in our villages and safeguard the land that sustains us. I will work with Cllr Ken James and our MP Geoffrey Cox to deliver the Holsworthy Agri Hub.

4. Campaign for safer roads and stronger transport – Tackle potholes, push for traffic-calming in speeding hotspots, and press for better links so no community is left behind. I will establish a potholes hotline!

5. Strengthen services and community life – Protect the basics that matter most — from refuse collection to community halls, Schools and Healthcare — and make sure villages get their fair share. I undertake to meet with our Parish Chairmen regularly and make sure Parish Councils are listened too.

6. Working all year round Putting Local Residents First – I have shown through my work as a Parish Councillor that I will always put our local community first. With my energy, focus and determination, no-one will champion our area more than me. I undertake to keep residents updated with regular newsletters all year round.

For me, it’s all about keeping things local, local, local. Local people should have a real say, local priorities must come first, and local communities deserve proper support from their council. If you put your trust in me, I’ll work hard to be a visible, approachable councillor who always puts Milton & Tamarside at the heart of every decision.

Kind regards,

Evan Williams – Conservative Candidate, Milton & Tamarside
