Dear member

Would you make sure you vote for your local Conservative candidate this Thursday? If you haven’t already, with a postal vote? Every vote counts and we need you.

On Thursday 1st May, you will have the chance to decide the future of Devon, how the council is run – local county services only – and what happens when the whole of local government is rearranged under labour’s new plans, in the next couple of years. We need experienced voices back in the hot seat.

The choice is clear: vote Conservative to keep Devon financially stable and well-run or risk a Liberal Democrat disaster like the one unfolding in Somerset.

Have you seen this, about who’s responsible for Devon council debt? Mostly the Lib Dems.

And since 2009, NO NEW DEBT taken on by Conservatives. Yes that’s right, We have in fact, repaid £148 million in their debt since 2009, and we have implemented a new finance system, inc allowing residents better access to financial information. Devon is still paying the price of massive loans taken out by the previous Liberal Democrat administration where some do not finish until 2059 and cost taxpayers £21.7m interest alone this year, and every year, which would buy a lot of pothole repairs and other services.

Under Conservative leadership, Devon County Council has remained financially responsible, and maintained essential services. Please spread the word if someone around you is thinking of voting Lib Dem.

Compare this to Somerset, where the Liberal Democrat-run council has declared a financial emergency, faces a £130 million budget shortfall, and is slashing vital services like road maintenance, libraries, and youth programs.

Plus if you know someone who is toying with the idea of voting for a local reform candidate with no experience, please tell them what Rupert Lowe had to say about why Reform is not the answer, here.

“So please tell me, where are the comprehensive local election policies? On potholes, social care, high street renewal, bins, public transport, housing policies, education, SEND support, children’s care, planning, business rates, parking. I could go on. Can you name one proper detailed local election policy? I can’t.

These local councils really matter - they play a huge part in all of our lives.

I simply cannot endorse a party that has put so frighteningly little thought into what it would actually do with power. Reform’s plan is to ride the protest wave.”

Rupert Lowe, ex Reform MP

Please help us keep Devon County Council Conservative – what if one vote was all it needed, and that vote was yours? Please vote for your local County candidate on May 1st.
